shore commute from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze is over 15 minutes. kristen and eric? >> bay area freeway traffic on lots of facts and another factor caltrain is dealing with thieves stealing copper wiring. >> you may not think that the terrible rush hour traffic can be made worse by copper thieves but it can be and it is. they target metering lights and our media partner is reporting that because they steal the valuable copper that powers the light, they are made useless. some lights have been out for two weeks. people are stealing the copper for the money. it has gone for up to $4 a pound at the yards, nearly triple the price it was four years ago. but a new law made deter thieves

with conviction on felonies up to three years in prison, and a maximum fine of $10,000. look at this, the last year in the bay area alone, vandals have stolen copper from 59 meters. caltran has only replaced wiring at 18 meters because of it takes three to four months to make repairs and the fix for the replacement costs $35,000 each. so caltrain is changing a lost copper wiring to aluminum wiring and moving equipment to other locations making it not as easy to access. they burying some of the equipment altogether. not only are they trying to make it harder for vandals but moving it from copper to aluminum to make it less valuable. >> southern california remains on edge as police continue the

manhunt for a wanted alleged cop killer, $1 million reward is now offered for information leading to his capture. officers are chasing possible sightings through los angeles and san diego, a former lapd officer is wanted for killing three people including a riverside police officer on thursday in a small community of big bear, children are returning to school this morning amid heavy security. the search grew cold over the weekend and authorities focusing on evidence found in his burned out truck. >> he posted his manifesto online and people voice support for him. the tributes include tweets and a fan page on facebook which has gotten thousands of "likes" and that call him a hero for exposing racism and corruption in the lapd. >> we learn more about a man sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

jones was served with a restraining order a few hours after the body of genelle was covered. jones estranged wife threaten -- said he threatened to kill her. >> the palo alto police department has released a sketch of a man wanted for armed robbery. police say this man robbed a man walking through an apartment complex carport on saturday morning and the victim just parked when the suspect approached and pulled out a gun. police are also investigating a possible connection to another armed robbery last month in palo alto. >> barry bonds returns to federal court this week. on wednesday the circuit court in arizona will hear argument to overturn the felony obstruction of justice. our media partner contra costa times reports that he must convince two members of a three-judge panel he was

but certainly plenty of companies are ripe for the picking, they would like a business environment where they are more welcome and they would like lower taxes. >> local employer plans on moving 800 jobs from the bay area to houston. perry will be in southern california today. >> san francisco taxpayers could end up paying millions for the city to host the upcoming america's cup. according to the "san francisco chronicle", sunday raising efforts to cover $34 million in police and transportation and clean up are falling short with only $14 million for the event that is in six months. taxpayers could be saddled with the remaining $20 million. it was supposed to bring in $300 million but now there are only three international teams rather than 12. >> a change coming to a popular brand of bourbon but makers mark says you will not not it, from

now, a look at the temperatures i updated at 5:00, frosty around santa rosa and 32 and a load of mid-30's inland, to 40's around fairfield, and mid 30's around redwood city, and upper 30's in san jose and half moon bay. 48 in san francisco for the warm spot. mid-to-upper 30's around monterey bay and 32 in gilroy so frost there, too. sunny and mild is what we will have this afternoon, but what we will have just about every kay this week as i see no strong storms on the horizon bringing us much needed rain and much needed snow. overnight it will be clear and cool and chilly because of the lack. cloud cover and the dry air mass and lack of wind. today, compared to average we will be two degrees warmer in live more and oakland, 63, napa is one degree warmer and right where we should be in napa and san jose, and san francisco is 359 and two degrees

driver lost control while going up the mountain. a passenger also injured was able to get out on his own and call 9-1-1 to get helped for the trapped driver. 25 emergency crew members spent two hours using ropes and pulleys to bring him back up. >> it took a lot of personnel and a lost hauling, just strength to pull him up using pulley systems and we have to climb up a steam embankment. the driver was airlifted to the hospital. speed was probably a factor. >> police were taken on short chase and then they crashed in a car that ended in san francisco at 2nd. officers spot add car reported stolen at 7:30, and police tried to pull him over, the driver took off. after crashing two young men ran off but they were caught a short distance away. >> this morning, police in concord, are looking for the person would slashed tires on dozens of vehicles.

a picture posted shows the damage to one on the vehicle, all four tires were slashed. about 60 vehicles in all were damaged, parks in the area of bellaire drive. police believe it happened early yesterday morning. investigators are asking people in the neighborhood to call them if they see anything suspicious. >> santa clara sheriff deputies want to learn more of a shoot that killed a man and superintendent another to the hospital. the shooting took place in an unincorporated part of san jose near highway 85 and union avenue. neighbors called 9-1-1 after hear gunshots at 3:45 and a man was found dead at the scene and the other person who was shot walked into a hospital emergency room and is expected to survive. >> two berkeley law students charged with killing an exotic bird at a las vegas casino are due in las vegas for arraignment. the two students both 24 were arrested last october for

be-heading an exotic bird. surveillance video shows the two chasing a 14-year-old bird into the trees at the hotel wildlife habitat and they came out with the body of the bird and the head. they face federally and misdemeanor charges involving the malicious killing of wildlife. >> bart is looking for feedback of a new law that allows the transit agency to ban repeat offenders from the trains. community meetings begin today to discuss the implementation of the law allowing bart to seek restraining orders against vandals and fare cheats sited for violations these or more times in 60 days. the meeting is set for 6:00 p.m. at the bart boardroom at kaiser center in oakland. >> now the weather forecast. >> we want rain. give us some rain. >> i would love to give you rain or snow.

sending the ship adrift. it left port from texas on thursday. a backup generator is provided limited electricity. it is 500 miles off the galveston and will be towed to the nearest port in mexico and will arrive on wednesday. >> a new report commissioned by the family of football coach joe paterno contradicts findings of penn state investigation into the sex abuse scandal involving retired assistant coach sandusky. they say paterno did not attempt to hide information or impede the investigation. that is contrary to former f.b.i. director's report last year for the school which said there was more concern about protecting the football program than protecting children. in an exclusive interview to air today, sue paterno tells katie how she felt about the accusations. >> lives of our children and making them better not hurting them.
